How do you build a privacy fence on a lot that slopes toward the water?
Either stepped, holding each panel level and dropping between posts, or racked, following the grade so the bottom of the fence stays tight to the ground. Stepping leaves a triangular gap under the low end of every panel, which on a real slope is enough to see under and enough for a dog to use.
There is also water to think about. A solid fence across a falling lot collects whatever runs off the ground above it, so we leave a planned gap where a run crosses a drainage path and give the low posts wide holes with crowned concrete. Cecil clay drains slowly and this area takes around 48 inches of rain a year, so the footing at the bottom of the lot works hardest.
